FAQ

What is Udda Budda?

Its a luxurious feeling body butter made from part 100% grass- fed beef tallow (Udda) and part hemp butter (BUDda)!

It goes on smooth, absorbs quickly, moisturizes without making you greasy or sticky.

Combined together, tallow and hemp create a healthy, nutrient rich, sustainable, all natural, ultra-moisturizing luxurious body butter!!

Think of it as the ultimate super-food for your skin!

Unlike plant-based body butter, Udda Budda is Tallow based. What does this mean? A little bit goes a long way. It also means that unlike plant-based Udda Budda absorbs into your skin locking in moisture in a more natural way that your skin recognizes. To ensure the best experience possible, we recommend using about a pea sized amount of Udda Budda initially and work up from there. As with any skincare product, always test on a small patch of skin prior to use.

How do you pronounce "Udda Budda"?

This is a fantastic question! Udda Budda is pronounced with the short U (like Rudder or Butter) sound you also use in "Udder" and "Budder"

We came up with the name as a play on words as our tallow comes from beef (and cows have Udders or "Uddas") and hemp BUDder( or "Budda".

What is "Tallow"?

Tallow is an ingredient rendered from beef fat. We only use tallow from 100% grass-fed beef as tallow from grain-fed animals alter the tallow causing it to lack the same nutrients.

Our skin readily absorbs tallow as it closely resembles our own natural sebum. This allows for maximum nutrient and moisture retention, leaving the skin nourished and hydrated without any unwanted greasiness or stickiness.

Tallow really is skin super food!

The utilization of tallow in skincare has a long-standing history predating the arrival of preservatives and processed plant-based butters, rendering it the preferred base.

The increased popularity of this product can be attributed to its preservative-free formula and extended shelf life. In recent years, there has been a resurgence in its use as consumers prioritize sustainability and responsible manufacturing in skincare. It remains a sought-after ingredient in luxury shaving bars and soaps today.

Will I smell like meat?!

Absolutely not!

Properly rendered and strained tallow may have a very faint scent. The scent seems to be unique for each person. Some people describe it like icing without the sugar scent, while others say it doesn't have a smell at all, others have said it has a very faint animal-ish scent, but not offensive in any way, others will say it smells fresh and warm.

I personally think it smells smooth with a slightly sweet cream aroma.

At Udda Budda we use a specific blend of essential oils to create a complimentry scent that smells like a lavender field in the summer. Using this specific blend we crafted ourselves we have created a scent that we are sure you will love.

What are the benefits of tallow?

1. Tallow contains Vitamins A, D, K, and E, all antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radical damage. Free radicals damage our skin cells. Free radicals are caused by environmental stressors like pollution, sun exposure, and other toxins. Free radical damage causes our collagen to break down, resulting in wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, and loose skin. Antioxidants help protect your skin from free radical damage, which helps reduce the signs of aging. (Source)

2.     Tallow has anti-inflammatory properties.

Tallow contains vitamins E, D, and K, known to possess anti-inflammatory properties.

3.     Tallow doesn’t clog pores and works with your sebaceous glands.

Vitamin A is known for helping our cells turnover faster, which reduces acne and skin irritation. Tallow is naturally more compatible with our skin, allowing it to act as natural sebum, which means it seals the moisture in, without clogging your pores! This reason alone is a significant reason why tallow is the ideal skincare base for lotions and butters.

4.     Tallow has antimicrobial properties.

Antimicrobial products stop the spread of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Because it is so similar to our natural sebum, it can help keep the good skin bacteria while leaving less than ideal environment for the bad bacteria. This is especially important seeing as you skin is your body's largest organ!

5.     Vitamin E in tallow can help produce collagen.

Vitamin E is known to boost collagen production. By increasing collagen production, you can keep your skin looking smooth and firm for longer. Smooth and firm skin= younger, healthier looking skin

6.     Tallow helps soothe skin injuries and helps repair damage faster.

Vitamin E is often associated with soothing the skin, reducing redness and irritation, and helping skin aliments subside. This is great for people who may be suffering from skin irritations, scars, or dry, cracked skin.

7. All of the vitamins and nutrients in tallow and its compatibility with our skin create a unique skincare base that helps your skin retain moisture, restore and protect itself, and stay firm and moisturized. Tallow is a sustainable base that not only mimics our natural sebum- its our skins natural superfood. Try a jar of our Udda Budda today and start giving your skin the best!

Where do you source your tallow?

We collaborate with a nearby butcher shop that aligns with our core principles. They partner with local farmers who prioritize grass-feeding their animals.

What are the benefits of hemp oil?

1. Minimizes Oiliness and Dryness

By minimizing the dryness of your own skin, your body is less likely to overproduce its own oil trapping dirt, grime, and bacteria inside pores causing break outs, skin irritation and redness. Hemp oil helps to create a good balance of oily-dry that is optimal for your skin to let the good bacterial flourish, while preventing the bad bacteria from sticking around and getting trapped in pores.

2. Treats Atopic Dermatitis

The hemp seed oil in hemp body butter contains omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, which have been proven to aid in the treatment of skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis. A study showed that dietary hemp seed oil treats atopic dermatitis symptoms in just 20 weeks.

3. Ideal for All Skin Types

Because of its skin balancing qualities hemp oil is good for dry-oily skin types and everything in between. It is even good for sensitive skin prone to redness.

4. Reduced Aging SkinHemp oil contains oleic and linoleic acids. Both of these acids are able to penetrate deeper skin layers to replenish lost moisture that comes as we age. By trapping in this moisture, hemp oil and body butter is able to reduce the appearance of and possibly even eliminate wrinkles and fine lines on various parts of the body.

5. Skin Oxygenation IncreasedHemp oil contains vitamin E which is known for increasing red blood cell productions and enhancing nutrients and oxygen. It is also know for promoting vessel dilation to improve circulation of blood

6. Soothes and Moisturizes InflammationHemp seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid which acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and encourages cell turnover and growth.

This decreases skin inflammation and irritation such as Acne and psoriasis while keeping moisture locked in during this
